Change Power Options to Speed up Windows 7

Win7 new users may have questions why my 3DMark test scores in Win7  is not as high as other users under the same configuration, or when playing certain 3D games my computer will freeze occasionally the, how can I do?
In fact, these problems are likely related to your power options of Win7 system. Those who are familiar with Win7 system know two characteristics of the power options. First, in the desktop Win7 systems, there is no power Options icon at the right of taskbar, but and in the notebook, there is.
Second, regardless of the version Win7 system, after the default installation we are using “balanced” power management, to open the detailed settings menu of this power program you can see a PCI-Express related with graphics power is set to “medium power save”.
This means that under the default the graphic does not run at full speed, resulting in the above-mentioned unsatisfied performance test results. And it’s not difficult to understand why Win7 will occasionally freeze while playing game.
I have specifically contrasted 3DMark tests between Win7 default programs’ balanced power and high-performance solutions, at the same scene, the former is slower an average of 3-5 frames per second than the latter, even more obvious at the complexity scene .
In fact, it is easy to solve, we just switch to “high performance” power plan before running the test or playing the game.

Option One: shortcut + Custom shortcuts

Since the Power Options icon exist in Control Panel, you can create a shortcut to the desktop, and add custom shortcuts to quickly open the Power Options to achieve the purpose.
The Setting is very simple. Turn into the control panel, right-click on Power Options icon, select “Create Shortcut”. Back to the desktop, right-click the shortcut – Properties, in the pop-up window find the “shortcut key”, enter a custom shortcut key, enter “Shift + Alt + P”. Later as long as we press after the custom shortcut, we can quickly open the Power Options window.
Option Two:
If you think that the first method is also not fast enough, then I recommend the second method. Win7 system coming with Powercfg.exe is the command-line of power options. In the command, run the command so that we can not only view the current system power scheme, can also switch to the effect with a button to.
On the desktop create a new Notepad, and change the extension from txt to bat, and then enter the following:

Slow computer startup is a problem troubling most computer users. It’s a common wish to make computers start faster. During the process of using computers I summarize some ways to speed up computer start-up, here to share with you.

1. BIOS settings optimization
From the BIOS setup page, enter “Advanced BIOS Features” option, move the cursor to “Frist Boot Device” option, press the “PageUP” and “PageDOWN” to choose, default value is “Floppy”, which means the system reads information beginning with the floppy drive when starts computer. This will lengthen the start-up time and shorten the life of the floppy drive. So we have to choose “HDD-0″ to start directly from the hard disk. In addition, in the BIOS settings, it’s suggested to disable “Above 1MbMemoryTest”and enable “QuickPowerOnSelftest”.
The settings in “Advanced Chipset Features” are significant in acceleration. Change the setting of “Bank 0/1 DRAM Timing” from “8ns/10ns” to “Fast” or “Turbo”. “Turbo” is faster than “Fast”, but less stable, “Fast” recommended.
For memories of good quality, it’s recommended to set “SDRAM CAS Latency” as “2″, which can speed up start-up.
Many motherboards support AGP4X, so enable “AGP-4XMode”.

2. Start the DMA mode, improve hard drive speed
Hard disks using UDMA/33, UDMA/66, or UDMA/100 technology respectively have a maximum transfer rate of 33MB/s, 66MB/s, 100MB/s. Theoretically, the transfer rate of these hard disks is 3 to 6 times of that of IDE hard disks. But in Windows the default settings of DMA is disabled. So you need to enable it.
